Where I'm at

Kevs and I reign supreme.Busy with building new business, business, busyness.
Busybusiness.

Joanie Love Bocce is rockin’ the autumn season. We’ve won 4, lost 2 and are shaping up to be powerhouses of the Thursday night. Each week we have a food theme. So far our themes have been “Made of Pork,” “Dip and Punch” and this week’s “Lunch Lady Food.” I’m bringing tater tots and crinkle fries with dipping sauces.

Tom will bring the sloppy joes.
I hope someone brings tuna casserole or turkey tetrazzini.

Our team chipped in to get jackets printed from customink.com. I can recommend their jacket delivery prowess.
Plus, we look tough.

Proposals and P-card lunches and paperwork and phone calls.
And cool new contacts and opportunities.
The universe is being very cool right now.

I’m a Halo 3 widow for the next week.
With that time, I am looking forward to test some new recipes.

(Between you and me I will probably get addicted to some new show that’s even better than my current addiction called Clean House.)

Foods to prepare during this time:
Acorn squash ravioli (thanks Bryce!) with brown butter and crispy sage.
Lasagnas and chicken enchiladas for the couple across the street with the new baby.
Spicy shrimp and crusty bread

Clare moved out this week. She’s gone to her new spiffy apartment in San Francisco. James and I miss her already. She’s taking the furniture with her that she left with us for the past three years.
So the excavation of the house begins!
On a budget for doll houses!

Do you listen to podcasts?
I want to learn more about them.
What are examples of the really good ones?
Or are you through with podcasts?

I’m being nicer to myself this week and it’s really paying off.
It’s making my heart a little softer.
I hope you are nice to you too.

I’m no help with the podcast question. But I’m glad you are being nice to yourself. You sound “up” and mellow. Yay!

As for house furniture on a budget: yard sales and curb scavenging. Sand and then paint old wooden pieces in unusual or cool colors. Recover an upholstered chair or loveseat using remaindered fabric and a glue gun. (A friend of mine is amazing at this.) You are so crafty and artistic, this stuff is perfect for you.

    podcasts… ‘not martha’ did
a post about podcasts the other day…

the ones i’m loving at the moment though are Lonely Planet travelcasts, the archive of Kevin Smiths Smodcasts and as always This American Life. NYTimes sometimes have podcasts too which are good.

I am rarely reading blogs in a place where a podcast is practical (either bandwidth issues or noise issues), so I tend not to listen to them.

I have sought them out for specific info (npr story I wanted to learn more about, or a how-to article).

I mostly enjoy a read-only version the Internet.

You know, it’s funny – I’ve been recording what passes for a PodCast since 2000, but I’ve never really listened to one all the way through. If you find any good ones I’d love to know what they are.

The key for me is really delivery. The two ways I am most likely to listen are (a) if a well-described podcast is embedded on a blog page and I can skim through it for the interesting bits while reading, or (b) by subscribing via iTunes so they passively appear on my iPod, and subsequently listening on my commute.

I’m more of a music listener than a talky NPR sort of guy, so that certainly influences my opinion, but I don’t think my habits are too far off from the norm – people look for convenience above all else.

I love Writer’s Almanac, Tim Gunn’s Project Runway podcast (when the show’s on), Marketplace Money, and story of the day from NPR. Others come and go… I prefer things that are kind of short, since my commute is about 40 minutes and I hate having to stop with just 10 or 20 minutes to go. My husband and I love Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me when we’re traveling, too.
