Late directions

HJ, NLH, CEY, MLJTaking a week off of the internet, a week off of commuting, a week off of the regular teethgrinding grind of furrowed brows and clenchy shoulders always gives me perspective.

Whether it’s a trip or a whatever, stepping out of our routine gives me a chance to reevaluate where I’m putting my time and energy.
And boy howdy, that includes this blog.

So, I know I write about home entertaining, and it’s something I’m still passionate about, but with the amazing sites on the internet kicking out the home entertaining jams for their like, jobs, I feel ill-equipped to focus entirely on that this year.

I get home from work at eight pm. I’m just not hosting people like the good old days. (Or, to use a popular buzzword from 2009, it’s not authentic to who I am.)

What I do now, is work on the campaigns matching up blogs and bloggers. I evaluate hundreds of sites a day for their appropriateness, audience and tone. So yes, that’s me, evaluating what campaigns are going well, and what aren’t. We try new things, we fail at some, we succeed at others, all the while bloggers get paid and brands get exposed to people who might otherwise be interested in their products. I don’t know where it’s going and that’s what’s most exciting about it.

I might talk a little more about that.
I’m not sure yet.

But as I’m not throwing mid-week dinner parties on a lark right now, it doesn’t feel right to be sending you all tips on how to do it.
(Grin.)

ceremony_mom_hjI don’t know who of you is on Twitter or whatever, but as part of this exercise in authenticity, I needed to tell you that my mom had a stroke yesterday.

She’s still in intensive care.┬áMy brothers are on it. Updates forthcoming.

My sister and I will be visiting her soon. If you’ve ever met Mary Lea, or heard me talk about her, you’d know my mom is filled with more capital G Grace than your average human.

All good vibes are appreciated.
(Especially now.)

Hope your New Year is filled with the good stuff.
