In the fantastic Selfie Podcast Facebook Group there was a great discussion about getting kids to focus in the morning.
This playlist is a little young for my 9 and 10 year old, but from when the girls were 2-8, we used the above playlist to signal the next activity in the morning. This worked because it wasn’t coming from the parents, it was a neutral third-party telling the kids it was time for the next activity.
You’ll find a playlist that works for you, but here’s ours with the accompanying songs.
- Song that signaled it was time to come downstairs and sit at the table: The Best Day Ever – Spongebob, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, Plankton & Patrick – SpongeBob’s Greatest Hits
-
Transition song as we hand out breakfast and shake out last night’s wobbles: Here Comes The Sun (Wake Up My Love) – Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band – Oh Lucky Day!
- Eating breakfast: The Goldfish-The Laurie Berkner Band –The Best Of The Laurie Berkner Band
- Wiping mouth and hands and transition to putting on socks and shoes:
-
Better have socks and shoes on by the time the previous song is done:
-
Get our bag together, and check for lunch and any papers: Pollywog In A Bog – Barenaked Ladies – Snacktime!
- Make sure we have everything in our bag: The House at the Top of the Tree – They Might Be Giants – No! (Deluxe Edition)
Hope these songs and this playlist can help your mornings have at least 50% fewer tantrums and defiant behavior. It worked for us!
