Baptizing the baby1.  A lovely birthday lunch, graciously gifted by the parents.

2.  A sneaky birthday date, graciously gifted by the husband.

3.  A full tank of gas.

4.  A full belly.

5.  A lot of hope for our family and future.

Baptizing the baby1. Holy wow, it’s my birthday.

2. I have learned a lot in my life about people, words and defending myself.

3. I have not yet learned a lot in my life about animals, nature and art. This kind of learning is the most fun.

4. The Wisconsin accent. It’s my favorite. It’s home. Yah, der hey.

5. Mani/pedis for my birthday. Just because.

Auntie necklace1. Watching my daughter eat her Uncle Charlie’s blueberry pancakes.

2. Those pancakes smothered with Cooper Lake Maple Syrup.

3. Laughing with the family at the table while eating those pancakes.

4. Eating at Kroll’s, again.

5. Knowing our dog is well taken care of.

Grace in Small Things 170

Adjust your grip1. Our daughter is baptized. I had no idea how much stress the preparation for that event generated.

2. There was cake. A big, sugary, frosting-ed baptism cake.

3. My whole family was there, cheering us on, taking up half the congregation.

4. My sister’s gift of a beautiful necklace for my daughter. It still takes me by surprise, when people give my daughter a gift.

5. Riding the train with my nephews at Bay Beach.
